About uS
The Pictou Island Heritage Society was founded in 2016 by a dedicated group of seasonal and permanent members of the Pictou Island community.
The society's main mission is to preserve the rich history and heritage of our close-knit Island community.
WHAT WE DO
The Pictou Island Heritage Society is committed to documenting, archiving, and researching the past, present, and future of the Pictou Island community.
This includes the oral history tradition of Gaelic and Celtic communities, as well as the history of fisheries and agriculture on the Island.
OUR COMMUNITY
Pictou Island is a remote community located in the middle of the Northumberland Strait, between Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
The close-knit society is comprised of a small number full time and a large number of seasonal residents.
SOCIETY PROJECTS
As a young organization, the Pictou Island Heritage Society is continually growing and building a repertoire of fundraising efforts and community improvement projects.

Our first project is the upcoming Heritage Site, which is intended to hold the historic Pictou Island iceboat and a variety of historic memorabilia.
