Overview

Island story

Cora Jane MacCallum married William MacLean at Pictou on 15 December 1909. Both were born and resident on Pictou Island: Cora, nineteen, was the daughter of Hugh and Flora, while William, twenty-seven, was a farmer whose parents were Charles and Anna Bell. Cora’s death registration names her parents more fully as Hugh MacCallum and Flora MacSwain, connecting her to the Hugh–Flora family commemorated at R2-016. She died on Pictou Island on 25 December 1936, a married homemaker, and William was explicitly her husband and informant. The registration retrospectively reports her birth on 23 February 1890; it records Island burial on 28 December without identifying a cemetery or plot. Cora and William are commemorated together at R3-002. Their son Hugh Dan’s death registration independently names William MacLean and Cora Jane MacCallum as his parents. The earlier census working name Lena is not silently rewritten from this later civil evidence.
