Overview

Island story

Charles McLean is commemorated with Annabell McCallum McLean at Pioneer Cemetery memorial R2-004, which records his death in 1910. Their marriage registration records a marriage at Pictou on 6 May 1873. Charles was a thirty-year-old bachelor farmer, born and resident on Pictou Island, with parents Hugh and Isabell. Annabell was twenty, also Island-born and resident, with parents Donald and Annie. The contemporary birth of their daughter Isabella in February 1876 independently names Charles and Ann Bell McCallum and reports their marriage in 1873. William and Daniel Hector’s later death records name the same parents. The accepted PIHS family reconstruction also connects Margaret Jane, Dolina Maud and Mamie Sophia to this household. His exact birth date and his parents’ wider identities remain unresolved; the marriage names do not by themselves identify another Hugh and Isabell family.
