Overview

Island story

Archibald McDonald is commemorated at R5-010 with Jessie McKenzie McDonald. The shared monument records Archibald as 1824–1877. Christy Ann MacDonald MacCallum’s original 1900 marriage names her parents as Archibald and Jessie, and her 1954 death certificate names Archibald MacDonald and Jessie MacKenzie and reports her father’s birthplace as Caribou, Nova Scotia. These mutually supporting records and the established family chronology connect Christy Ann of R7-001 to this couple. The birthplace is retrospective testimony, not an independently inspected birth record. Archibald’s occupation and earlier settlement history remain open. Duncan MacDonald’s 1901 marriage names his parents as Archibald and Jessie. The established 1891 mother-and-sisters household and Margaret Catherine’s 1871 birth connect Duncan and Maggie/Margaret Catherine with this parent pair; Maggie’s 1905 remarriage repeats Archibald and Jessie as her parents. The younger Jessie who married Duncan in 1901 is a separate person.
