Overview

Island story

Catherine Munro McCallum is commemorated at R6-016 with Daniel L. McCallum and their son Laughlin. The memorial explicitly identifies Catherine as Daniel’s wife and Laughlin as their son, establishing these family relationships through the inscription. Her marriage to Daniel is recorded at Pictou on 18 November 1873. The bride, Catherine Munro, is recorded as 35, resident at Caribo, with parents John and Mary; her birthplace and her mother’s maiden surname are not supplied. Their son Duncan’s 1874 birth registration names Catherine Munro, and his 1958 death registration names Catherine Munroe and reports her birthplace as Cariboo, Nova Scotia. The family bridge is supported by the couple, locality and chronology, while the reported marriage location remains conflicted: Pictou in the marriage entry, St John in Duncan’s birth entry.
