Overview

Island story

Daniel L. McCallum is commemorated at R6-016 with Catherine Munro McCallum and their son Laughlin. An Iodhlann independently identifies Daniel MacCallum, 1835–1897, on Pictou Island as a son of Lauchlin MacCallum and Mary MacLean, both natives of Tiree, and identifies his Island house. This gives Daniel one of the stronger early MacCallum migration/family contexts. The original marriage registration records Daniel McCallum Jr., aged 38, an Island-born carpenter living on Pictou Island, marrying Catherine Munro at Pictou on 18 November 1873. It names his parents as Lauchlin and Mary, without supplying Mary’s maiden surname. The established family comparison connects this couple with Duncan M. MacCallum’s 1874 birth and 1958 death registrations. Duncan’s birth entry instead reports the parents’ marriage as 1873 at St John; that place conflict remains unresolved, and Jr. and L. are retained as source-specific forms.
