Overview

Island story

Duncan M. MacCallum is commemorated with Margaret J. MacLean MacCallum at Pioneer Cemetery memorial R6-014, which records 1874–1958. His contemporary birth registration names Daniel L. McCallum, an Island farmer, and Catherine Munro as his parents and records his birth on Pictou Island on 13 October 1874. His death registration identifies Duncan Munroe MacCallum as a lifelong Island resident and retired farmer who died there on 7 March 1958; it names the same parents and his wife as Mrs Janie McCallum. These records connect him to the existing Daniel L. and Catherine family at R6-016 and corroborate the accepted Margaret J./Janie spouse identity. The death certificate reports a 14 October 1874 birthday, one day later than the birth entry; both readings are retained. It records burial on Pictou Island on 10 March 1958, without establishing an exact cemetery plot. The nurse informant is explicitly recorded as having no relationship to him.
