Island story
Annabell MacLean Hooper is commemorated with her husband Lester and son John Ralph at Pioneer Cemetery R2-001. Her marriage to Lester on 23 April 1916 in Pictou identifies her as an Island-born and resident twenty-year-old and names Torquil and Isabell as her parents. Her delayed birth application and supporting records likewise name Torquil McLean and Isabel McLean. The application and certified family Bible entry report 10 February 1896; the school extract and her 1972 death registration report 11 February. The day remains disputed, and the later certifications are not the original Bible or school register. Her death registration records her death at Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital, Pictou, on 15 August 1972 as Lester’s widow and names Torquil and Isabel as parents. Son Theodore was the informant; Island burial is recorded on 17 August without an exact plot. Veterans Affairs confirms John Ralph’s parents; Sidney Willard’s 1943 marriage, Isabel Louise’s 1944 marriage and Theodore Lester’s delayed birth record also identify Lester and Annabell as their parents. This was a separate household from the James–Dolina Hooper family. John Ralph is commemorated on the Island and buried at Groesbeek in the Netherlands. The obituary of her son Theodore Lester (Ted) Hooper names his parents as Lester and Annabelle (MacLean) Hooper and identifies sisters Isabel Rankin and Hazel MacDonald, brothers Sydney and Howard, and predeceased brother Ralph. Ted was an Island-born welding foreman at Ferguson Industries. His accompanying memorial notice dates his death to 18 February 1982; his obituary gives his age as sixty-one.

Incomplete names and identity candidates
Name and accepted-alias matches appear before initials-only possibilities. Within each group, records with no known date conflict and an accepted connection to the selected relative appear first. This is an evidence ordering, not a probability. Compare generation, known relatives, census units, memorials and dated sources in each record. No suggestion changes a family relationship.

Family records in this tree
Sidney Willard Hooper
Sidney Willard Hooper
Sidney Willard Hooper is identified in family records as a son of Lester and Annabell MacLean Hooper and brother of John Ralph. His marriage to Delta Priscilla Thurber on 1 July 1943 at the First Presbyterian Church manse in Pictou describes him as twenty-five, a soldier at Camp Petawawa, born in New Glasgow and resident on Pictou Island. It explicitly names Lester Hooper and Annabell MacLean as his parents. A contemporary New Glasgow birth entry records Wilfred Sydney on 5 April 1918 to Lester and Anna Bell McLean. The matching parents, place and cohort support a candidate, but the given-name correspondence remains qualified; that birth date is not silently assigned to Sidney Willard. The marriage’s soldier occupation does not establish a specific military unit or service file.
Isabel Louise Hooper Rankin
Isabel Louise Hooper Rankin
Isabel Louise Hooper married Vernon Leslie Rankin on 6 July 1944 at the First Presbyterian Church manse in Pictou. She was nineteen, born and resident on Pictou Island; her parents are explicitly named as Lester Hooper and Annabelle MacLean. Vernon, twenty-two, was an Island-born and resident farmer, with parents John A. Rankin and Mary M. MacDonald. This original supports the existing Isabel–Vernon spouse identity and connects Isabel to the Lester–Annabell branch. The stated ages do not establish exact birthdays. Isabel’s 2011 obituary describes raising their family on the Island before moving to Pictou; its marriage-duration wording does not override the original wedding date.
Theodore Lester “Ted” Hooper

Hazel Doreen Hooper MacDonald
Hazel Doreen Hooper MacDonald
Hazel Doreen Hooper MacDonald was born on Pictou Island on 1 August 1938 to Lester and Annabelle Hooper. Her obituary remembers her baking, knitting and welcoming home. She married Logan MacDonald, who predeceased her. She died on 20 September 2025, aged eighty-seven, at Aberdeen Hospital. Burial was announced for Seaview Cemetery. Her obituary confirms the identity of Hazel, Logan’s wife and Theodore Hooper’s sister, in the earlier family clippings.
