Overview

Island story

Daniel MacCallum is commemorated with Susanna Robertson MacCallum at Pioneer Cemetery memorial R9-011, which records him as 1849–1914. Their original marriage registration records a Presbyterian marriage at Pictou on 4 May 1870: Daniel, 21, a bachelor farmer, and Susanna, 18, were both born and resident on Pictou Island. His parents are written as Lauchlin and Cath; the abbreviated maternal name is preserved. Their established family includes Annie Wilkins MacCallum MacFarlane and Charles Creighton MacCallum, whose marriage and death records name Daniel/Dan and Susan. Daniel’s death registration records an Island-born married farmer, aged 66, who died on 22 December 1914 and was buried on Pictou Island; it does not name his parents or wife. This Daniel and Susanna household remains distinct from Daniel L. McCallum and Catherine Munro.
