Island story
As a student minister, Archibald Sutherland became an important advocate and organizer for a permanent church on Pictou Island. He worked with Island families and a wider Presbyterian mission and fundraising network. PIHS-approved interpretive history associates the Sutherland name with his support for the church project. The exact donor and namesake history remains unresolved in the underlying church and land records.
