Island story
Melvin D. MacDonald (1925–1975) is commemorated at Pioneer Cemetery memorial R4-010. The original 1931 census identifies Melvin, aged four, as a son of household head Duncan MacDonald, alongside Duncan’s wife Lottie and other children. This supports the established father relationship; the census age and memorial year are retained as recorded. The same monument names Duncan’s first wife Jessie, who died in 1910 and cannot be Melvin’s mother. Lottie Bishop is independently identified as the mother of Elsie and Catherine Ann, but those records do not independently establish Melvin’s maternity.
