Connections remembered on the stones

Supported family connections

These connections are stated in marker transcriptions and are shown separately from broader family history. Additional vital, census, church or family records may add detail.

MacDonald / MacFarlane

Angus, Adeline and Robert MacDonald

Robert is identified as the son of Angus MacDonald and Adeline MacFarlane MacDonald.

The relationship is transcription-supported; burial status still requires more than the photograph alone.

The PIHS Rankin-Sibley collection identifies Angus ‘Happy Angus’ MacDonald with Adeline ‘Dollie’ MacFarlane, and a FamilySearch tree records their marriage and son Robert H. MacDonald. The civil marriage and Robert’s death registration remain the preferred controlling records.

MacFarlane / MacPherson

Andrew and Flora MacFarlane family

Flora MacPherson MacFarlane is identified as Andrew’s wife; Mary and Mae are identified as their daughters.

The relationships are explicit in the transcription, but the incomplete dates remain unresolved.

An Iodhlann’s heritage photograph independently identifies East Lighthouse keeper Andrew MacFarlane with his wife Flora MacPherson and their children. It corroborates the couple and household, but does not identify Mary and Mae individually.

About family connections

Family connections here follow the inscriptions and linked records. A shared surname or nearby stone alone does not establish a relationship.

A family connection across two markers

Robertson–MacFarlane across R9-017 and R9-016

One inscription at R9-016 identifies Allena as the daughter of Allan and Annie MacFarlane and James as their grandson, connecting it to the household named at R9-017.

What the inscription says: Allena and James are connected to Allan and Annie. Related records: Allan and Annie’s marriage registration, Jessie’s and Wilma’s birth registrations, and Wilma’s and Susan’s marriage registrations independently document the Pictou Island household, but they are not Allena’s or James’s own civil records.

Adeline ‘Dollie’ MacFarlane with Angus MacDonald

Andrew and Flora MacFarlane’s lighthouse household is represented by a PIHS keeper portrait and an independently catalogued family photograph. Adeline ‘Dollie’ MacFarlane also appears with Angus MacDonald.

Boundary: The household photograph corroborates Andrew and Flora, but does not identify every child or every MacFarlane marker.

Some surname groups do not yet have an identified portrait or longer story. Their individual marker photographs and transcriptions remain available through the records.
