Overview

Island story

Anna Jessie MacFarlane is commemorated at Pioneer Cemetery memorial R10-008 as a daughter of Robert and Margaret Catherine MacFarlane; the stone records 1907–1932. Her 1932 death registration identifies her as single, born and resident on Pictou Island, aged twenty-five years, one month and ten days, with work described as at home. It names her parents Robert MacFarlane and Margaret MacDonald, both reported Island-born. The form leaves her birth date blank, so an exact birth date is not calculated from her age. It records Island burial on 17 March 1932, without an exact plot. Informant Hector McDonald is explicitly marked as having no relationship to her; his surname does not establish kinship. The parent pair corroborates Robert and Maggie Catherine’s 1905 marriage. Anna Jessie remains distinct from Jessie Ann in Allan and Annie MacFarlane’s family, and from Allan’s wife Annie Wilkins MacCallum. Anna Jessie MacFarlane belonged to the family of Robert and Margaret Catherine MacFarlane on Pictou Island. Two original 1931 death registrations identify her as the mother of Dolina Louise, who died in May at four months, and Janet Margaret Nina, who died in October at two years and nine months. Neither return identifies the children's father. Their loss belongs in the family's history without adding an unsupported paternal branch or describing a medical cause absent from the records.
