Overview

Island story

Annie Wilkins MacCallum married Allan MacFarlane at Pictou on 21 July 1905. The original marriage record identifies her parents as Dan and Susan. By 1931 Annie was living on Pictou Island with Allan and their large family, whose household and farm work are documented in the census. Their Pioneer Cemetery family monument at R9-017 records Annie W. MacCallum MacFarlane and gives her death year as 1934. Her memorial and the 1931 census support a lifespan of about 1888/89–1934; her exact death date is not yet known. The original records Allan as 28 with parents John and Annie, and Annie Wilkins as 21 with parents Dan and Susan, both born and resident on the Island. Her reported marriage age differs from the later census and memorial cohort; it is not used to replace her approximate birth years. Charles Creighton’s marriage and death records support their relationship as siblings in the Daniel/Susanna Robertson household. Anna Jessie MacFarlane’s 1932 death record belongs to a single daughter of Robert and Margaret and is excluded as Annie Wilkins’s death.
