Island story

Campbell MacCallum is documented as an adult household head in the 1931 Pictou Island census, where the census transcription identifies him as a farmer operating a general farm. Ruth Munro’s family history identifies Campbell as a brother of John Malcolm MacCallum in the Charles and Anna MacCallum family. Her store history, based on John Malcolm’s recollections, says Campbell later operated an Island shop for a period. The store role is retrospective and does not identify which store branch or prove legal ownership, but it adds an important second dimension to a census-anchored farming life. PIHS oral-history material also remembers farm work on Campbell MacCallum’s farm. That combination supports a concise biography while leaving property and vital details open.
