Island story
Neil Rankin is commemorated at R4-013 in the Pioneer Cemetery and died in 1903. In the 1901 Pictou Island census, he appears on page 1 in family 9 as a twenty-two-year-old son in Ann Rankin’s household, with a recorded birth date of 28 November 1878. The census places Neil in Ann’s household shortly before his death and records 1878 as his birth year. The evidence does not yet establish his father, occupation or the circumstances of his death, and these details remain unknown.
