Island story
Lauchlin Rankin is recorded in the 1931 Pictou Island census as a household head with his wife Katherine, their young son Edward and Katherine’s aunt Ellen MacKenzie. His Pioneer Cemetery monument records Lauchlin Rankin, 1877–1945, together with Katherine MacKenzie Rankin. PIHS lighthouse history also remembers Lauchie in the South Lighthouse keeper sequence; the surviving records do not establish every service detail.
