Christena G. Whiteway Rankin

Island story

Christena G. Whiteway Rankin is recorded in the 1931 Pictou Island census as the wife of George Rankin in a large west-end household that included Mae, Robert, Bertha, Ernest, Anna and Ida. Her Pioneer Cemetery monument with George at R2-013 records Christena G. Whiteway Rankin, 1886–1952. The household later connects directly to the biography of their son Ernest “Ellwood” Rankin, farmer and ferry operator. Current evidence establishes Christena’s family position strongly, while her own earlier life and Whiteway ancestry remain subjects for further research.
