Island story
Federal records name Hugh McLean as a lightkeeper appointed on 24 June 1905 while the Wharf-light project was still under construction. Later Island accounts remember him as “Big Hughie.” The surviving sources do not establish his exact duties before the permanent light entered operation; an end of service around 1910 is reported.
