Island story
Chester R. MacCallum is commemorated at C-019. The 1931 census places Chester, age thirty-six, as the brother of Ward MacCallum, and Ruth Munro’s family material independently places Chester in the same Little Dan and Susan MacCallum family. Munro also connects Chester to farming, an early ferry partnership and Island hockey. His biography therefore links the cemetery to several strands of everyday Island life rather than to one occupation alone. His civil death registration records 28 April 1969 and describes Chester Robertson MacCallum as an Island ferry-boat operator. It names his father Daniel and gives his mother’s surname as Robertson. This independent occupational record supports the ferry work remembered in the local history.
