Island story
Ethel Dophney MacMillan was born on Pictou Island, a daughter of William D. MacMillan and Anna J. MacLean. Her 2018 obituary closes a long-standing gap in the MacMillan family reconstruction by identifying her as one of the couple’s nine children. She also appears to be a strong match for the Ethel MacMillan named in the 1942 Pictou Island Sunday School photograph, which would place her within the Island’s wartime church and childhood community. Ethel later lived in Pictou. Her exact birth date and burial location remain not established in the surviving sources, so this profile remains concise.
