Island story
John Ralph Hooper was born in 1916 to Lester and Annabell Hooper. He served in the Canadian Army as Lance Corporal F/79900 with the Lincoln and Welland Regiment, R.C.I.C., and died overseas on 26 January 1945. Veterans Affairs records place his burial at Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery in the Netherlands. On Pictou Island, his parents’ Pioneer Cemetery memorial includes his name and explicitly notes that he is buried in Holland.
