Family connections and Island stories
Lavinia Glover and the winter-mail family
Lavina, also recorded as Lavinia Glover (1917–1959), was the daughter of Edward “Eddie” and Anna J. Glover and sister of Ruth and Elmer. She is remembered with her husband, James D. MacDonald.
Eddie Glover’s story forms part of the Island’s winter-mail, boat and iceboat history. Elmer is named on the church’s Second World War remembrance with the designation R.C.N. Ruth Munro identifies Mary MacKenzie as Eddie’s aunt.

James D. MacDonald: fishing and family
James D. MacDonald (1906–1959) is remembered with his wife, Lavina Glover. A James MacDonald, aged fourteen, appears in the 1921 household of Angus Hector “Happy Angus” MacDonald and Dollie MacFarlane. The 1931 Island census records a James MacDonald, aged twenty-four, working as a lobster fisherman.
These census entries suggest a connection to the Happy Angus and Dollie family, and possibly to John Alexander “Jack Happy” MacDonald. This identification remains uncertain.
