Island story
Arnold MacMillan grew up in the Donald William and Anna Jane MacMillan family on Pictou Island and spent most of his working life in the lobster fishery. Later oral-history evidence describes him as fishing from the Island for about sixty years. He married Helen Lorraine MacDonald, whose own family was closely connected to lighthouse and Island community life, and their son Billy continued the fishing tradition. Together, Arnold and Lorraine represent the continuity of the Island fishery across generations—from family knowledge and small-boat work to the later twentieth century. They are commemorated together in the Church Cemetery at C-007.
