Lauchie D. MacCallum

Island story

Laughlin “Lauchie D.” MacCallum was part of the MacCallum family on Pictou Island and is recorded as the head of a household in the 1931 census. By then his wife, Sophie Phillips MacCallum, had died, and the household included their children John, Ralph and Helen. The family’s Pioneer Cemetery memorial at R2-009 records Lauchie and Sophie together, while separate nearby memorials and footstones identify Ralph and Helen. The cemetery and census records make this one of the better-defined family groups in the Pioneer Cemetery, although a fuller account of Lauchie’s work and individual life remains to be developed.
