Island story
James Duncan MacDonald is commemorated with Lavina M. Glover MacDonald at Church Cemetery memorial C-017. The 1931 census records him as a twenty-four-year-old resident lodger working as a lobster fisherman. His original marriage to Olive Jean MacLean is recorded at St Andrews manse in Pictou on 24 September 1936: he was a twenty-nine-year-old bachelor fisherman, born and resident on Pictou Island, with parents Angus Hector MacDonald and Adelina MacFarlane. This independently corroborates the accepted Happy Angus and Dollie family connection in PIHS family records. Olive’s parents are named as William MacLean and Cora Jane McCallum. Olive is commemorated at Pioneer Cemetery R1-004 as 1914–1946; her contemporary birth registration reports 1915, a retained conflict. James’s later marriage to Lavina connects him to the Glover winter-mail family. His parents’ middle-name and name-variant questions remain source-specific; the marriage does not resolve every earlier Angus identity or date.
